Professional Outreach

/files/Site Images/outreach_community2.JPGProfessional Development: Members of The Bodine School faculty share their expertise at state and national conventions and are available to provide teacher in-service to area schools. A brochure regarding Outreach topics is available by contacting the school.

Professional Newsletter: "The Bodine Outreach" is a newsletter published semi-annually that is written specifically for area professionals. Topics related to reading, dyslexia, and other learning disabilities are covered in this newsletter.

Teacher Training: The Bodine School supports elementary teacher training through its participation in the SMILA teacher training institute. At this institute teachers are taught a simultaneous, multisensory approach to the teaching of reading which is particularly beneficial for beginning readers and students at risk for reading failure. For more information regarding this institute, contact Rosemary Williams at (901) 754-1441 or click here to download a brochure for the 2008 SMILA institute.   For research related to what expert teachers of reading should know and be able to do, click here.

Workshops: The Bodine School also sponsors teacher workshops which feature nationally recognized authorities in their fields. Past workshops have featured Michelle Gallegos instructing teachers on the six traits of writing, Dr. Nancy Cushen White speaking on extending the Slingerland approach, and Wilson Anderson who offered teacher training for secondary teachers. Please contact The Bodine School for more information.
