Admissions Process

/files/Site Images/admissions.jpgThe Bodine School welcomes and admits qualified students regardless of race, creed, color, ethnic identity, or place of national origin. The Bodine School is designed specifically for high potential students whose primary diagnosis is a specific learning disability. The school does not admit students who struggle in school because of behavioral difficulties, severe attentional problems, moderate to severe receptive and expressive language deficits or less than average intellectual abilities.

The admission process can be confusing. While The Bodine School's process and procedures are similar to schools which share a similar mission, they are quite different from other schools. The procedures are outlined below. For additional information or clarification, contact The Bodine School.

Initial Inquiry: Parents are encouraged to contact The Bodine School and request information about the school. Initial questions regarding your student's academic difficulties and the results of a recent psychoeducational evaluation (within the past two years) will be asked.

Tuesday Tours: Parents should schedule an appointment to attend a Tuesday Tour to learn more about The Bodine School and its programs. Tours are held from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. on most Tuesdays. Potential students do not attend the tour. Email Kathy Erb to arrange a tour. Click here for more information.

Application: Complete the application and return it with the required $100 application fee. Please use the checklist on the front of the application to ensure the application is complete. The following should be included with the application: all previous psychoeducational test results, any additional testing, such as speech/language assessments, etc., samples of student work, and pertinent school records such as report cards, achievement testing, and an IEP if available.

Request for School Records: Complete and sign the form and return it to our Admissions Office with your application. The Bodine School will forward the request to the student's current school.

Teacher Recommendations: The Bodine School requires two completed teacher recommendation forms for all its applicants. These forms are confidential and should be given to the teachers along with an envelope addressed to The Bodine School. The Admissions Committee will likely follow up the forms with a phone call to the teachers to further discuss their observations.

Testing/School Visit: Students of The Bodine School are selected on the basis of diagnostic testing, a completed evaluation, school records, teacher recommendations, and a personal visit. During the school year, prospective students are required to spend one to three days visiting the school. During this time, the student will follow a regular school schedule and be evaluated by the school staff. Students who apply during the summer months will be scheduled for testing. This testing generally takes two to four hours.

Acceptance: Admission to The Bodine School is determined by the Admissions Committee which evaluates the student's application. Parents are notified of their student's admission status by telephone or in writing after review of the student's completed application by the Admissions Committee. If your child is not an appropriate match to our program, every effort will be made to provide guidance toward a suitable alternative to The Bodine School.

Waiting Pool: The Bodine School maintains a waiting pool for qualified applicants for whom no opening exists. Students who have been accepted and placed in the waiting pool will be placed as openings occur in the program.

Enrollment: The Bodine School offers a written enrollment contract to qualified candidates for whom space exists. Enrollment is complete when the signed contract and tuition deposit are returned to the school.
