Academics Overview
The Bodine School offers a full academic program for dyslexics in grades 1-8. The school is divided into elementary (grades 1-5) and middle school (grades 6-8) programs. The goal of both programs is to remediate language-based learning disabilities to the degree that students are able to return to traditional educational institutions.
The program at The Bodine School has been developed to address the needs of high potential learning disabled students. Due to this focus and the academic demands of the program, emotionally disturbed, behaviorally disordered, or students with below average intelligence or moderate oral and receptive language disorders are not admitted to the school.
The Bodine School maintains a 6:1 student to teacher ratio. The maximum class size is 10 students. All teachers are certified in the area they teach and participate in intensive teacher training prior to working with students. In addition to classroom teachers, the faculty consists of an academic dean, a technology coordinator, a librarian, a counselor, an art teacher, a music teacher and a physical education specialist.
The Bodine School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and is a member of a number of professional organizations including the Southern Association of Independent Schools, the Memphis Association of Independent Schools, the International Dyslexia Association, and the Learning Disabilities Association.
